CONTEST GUIDELINES
The Art Association of the Philippines is inviting Filipino artists to join the annual Art competition of the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP). Now on its 68th year, AAP is encouraging the public to be with us in giving tribute to our brilliant artists.
We are inviting all Filipino artists to join the competition and explore their best in conceptualizing their entries to produce new and liberated artworks.
The Art Association of the Philippines will be strict in the implementation of the guidelines set, It is advised that all participants be mindful of the mechanics, rules & regulations as entries could be disqualified for technical reasons.
CATEGORY & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
1) Theme : OPEN THEME
3 CATEGORIES for this year’s competition:
I. REPRESENTATIONAL PAINTING
II. SCULPTURE
III. DRAWING
2) The competition is open to all Filipino 18 years old and above.
Participants can submit one entry per category. All participants must be an AAP member.
Participants may apply or renew their membership on the day of submission.
Annual membership fee is P250.00.
3) PAINTING: the required size is 30"x 40" or 40" x 30" inches , excluding the frame.
Weight should not exceed 10 kilos (including the frame)
3.1 All entries must be ready for hanging ( museum wrap or box type canvas is allowed) upon submission.
3.2 MEDIUM acceptable is Oil on canvas, acrylic on canvas, and watercolor only.
Entry using collage , decoupage, assemblage or use of non-pigment materials like paper, board, plastic , metal , cloth , etc.,is NOT ALLOWED. To qualify, entries must have appropriate support and/ or equivalent devices should be provided to ensure the proper handling of the artwork (ready for hanging). For Watercolor entries , any watercolor paper is allowed EXCEPT illustration board.
4 ) SCULPTURE: Length : minimum of 18 inches, maximum of 36 inches
Depth: minimum of 12 inches , maximum of 24 inches
Height: minimum of 24 inches , maximum of 48 inches.
Weight : should be between 10 kilos to 20 kilos.
4.1 Entries should provide its own pedestal. Pedestals are not included in the measurement of the entry.
4.2 Entries must be done in the generally accepted medium for sculpture such as `Metal ( steel, brass, copper, aluminum, & bronze) : hardwood ( narra, mahogany, yakal, etc) ; stone ( marble, granite, limestone, etc) ; terra corta; resin & solid glass.
5 ) DRAWING : Size : 24X18 or 18X24 -
Medium: ballpen, pencil, colored pencil, charcoal,pen and ink on drawing paper.
The entry must be dated not earlier than 2014, and must be the original work of the participating artist. In addition, it must not have been exhibited before, revised nor awarded a prize in another contest.MUST BE FRAMED / under glass.
6) All entries MUST BE SIGNED by the artist , but the signature should be covered with masking tape prior to submission to conceal the artist’s identity. It must also be properly labeled at the back indicating the following: Artist –( Name, Address, Contact number) , Title of the work, Medium, Size, Year & price , if the artwork is for sale.
7) All participants must be responsible for their entries. AAP will not undertake any pick –up or transportation of any artwork to or from any point of origin, WET PAINTINGS & WET SCULPTURE will not be accepted.
8) Entries must be submitted at GSIS Museum located at the GSIS Main Office, Financial Center, Reclamation Area, Pasay City (CCP Complex – Diosdado Macapagal Ave.) on November 7,2015, (Saturday) from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm ONLY.
9) Entries submitted before or after the stated date and time will not be accepted. Mail forwarders coming from the provinces should be advised by the participants themselves that the entry will be accepted on the said submission date.
10) During the submission, the participating artist must submit the following along with every entry:
A. Complete filled up & signed entry form with 1” x1 “ ID colored picture.
B. Photocopy of one valid ID ( for age verification) . Accepted valid IDs include: current school ID, PRC license, Senior Citizen’s ID, Voter’s ID, Official company ID, copy of recent passport, Postal ID, SSS ID, GSIS ID, NBI/Police clearance & AAP membership ID
C. 5” x 7 “ colored photo of the work with the following information written at the back: Artist ( name, address & contact number), title of the artwork, medium, size, year & price if the artwork is for sale.
D. Notarized ENTRY FORM certifying originality of the entry & subscription to the rules & regulations of the competition.
JUDGING, PRIZES, and DATE OF AWARDING OF WINNERS:
11) Annoucement & awarding of winners will be held at GSIS Theater
on Dec. 11, 2015 at 6:00 PM.
12) PRIZES:
Painting:
1st Prize --------- 50,000.00 plus trophy
2nd Prize--------- 30,000.00 plus medal
3rd Prize--------- 20,000.00 plus medal
(10) honorable mentions – medals, and certificate
Sculpture:
1st Prize --------- 50,000.00 plus trophy
2nd Prize--------- 30,000.00 plus medal
3rd Prize--------- 20,000.00 plus medal

1 BEST ENTRY - ----10,000.00 plus trophy

13) Judges may decide not to award prizes to any entry that does not meet certain artistic & competition requirements. All Decisions made by the board of Judges SHALL BE FINAL.
OTHER PROVISIONS:
14) Due to limited space, the GSIS Museum & AAP reserve the right to decide which entry will be exhibited.
15) All entries on display should not be sold or taken out from the Museum within the duration of the exhibit. The artist is responsible in dealing with prospective buyer(s).
16) All possible care will be taken for the entries submitted. However, The GSIS Museum & AAP assume no responsibility for any loss or damage to the entries before, during & after the competition. The artist shall hold the GSIS MUSEUM, and/or any of its officers & staff & the AAP officers free & harmless for any liability/claims for loss damage, or injury to the works while in exhibit or in storage.
17) All non-winning entries must be retrieved by the participants or their designated representatives on January 30 to February 28,2016. Unclaimed artworks after this date will be disposed by AAP accordingly.
